Metal Rescue Rust Removal Bath Product Review

By:  Pam Melton

I try to limit the appearance of the green monster of envy in my life.  Despite those efforts, I can’t help but be envious of those who take the extra time to take meticulous care of their stuff.  We work hard for the money that we use to buy our stuff, so it’s appropriate that we take the best possible care of it.  No matter our intent around here, we do manage to be a trifle neglectful.  As I strive to ameliorate that lapse, I am constantly on the lookout for products that can help me overcome the consequences of not being as diligent as I would like.  At the 2011 National Hardware Show, we encountered a product that can help revive many casualties of my neglect.

When I first saw Metal Rescue™ Rust Removal Bath, the first thing I thought about  - my garden tools.  I have a ridiculous habit of leaving my clippers, trowels and whatnot in the yard.  Little did I know that when I got home, I’d find that hubby and I left my driver bit set in the belly of our houseboat.  Wanna see what it looked like?  Is that not the most ridiculous thing you’ have ever seen?

Anyway, what a fabulous test for my new find.  I figure if Metal Rescue™ can save this catastrophe, it should handle anything that the average Jill can throw at it.  Our wonderful summer intern set up this little video – the music made me giggle a little.

We were absolutely floored by the results!  While this product can be used and re-used until it turns black, this job left the bath completely spent.  A month after treatment, the bits all look as rust free as the day we took them out of the bath.  ARMOR Protective Packaging® also makes a product called Dry Coat™ Rust Preventative, which keeps treated items from becoming rusted.  Since my husband and my brother are constantly restoring some car or another, I’m very familiar with the way car parts become rusted over time.  I can totally see where Dry Coat™ would be fabulous for them.  Time will only tell if such a treatment is required to keep my bits from reverting to their colorful, yet useless state.

At $25.00 a gallon if purchased from the Metal Rescue™ site, this is one product that provides an excellent return on investment.  And by the way, whatever this stuff is made of, it’s environmentally friendly (for real) and it’s mild on the skin.  I swear..there was this chick working their booth at the show and she had a sweet French Mani.  She told me that she had her hands in that stuff for hours over the course of the show.  On the third day, it still looked fab.

We give Metal Rescue™ Rust Remover Bath an enthusiastic 5 Fingernails.   If you have got stuff that needs saving – check it out.
