A Kids Eye View

By:  Pam Melton

Creating the Culders included hanging a few things on the walls.  So, when the time came to hang pictures, I let my 5 year old granddaughter pick which pictures and prints were going to be hung in “her” room and where.  When we finished, she excitedly grabbed her BoPa to see what we wrought.  It took him a second to realize that he had to look down.

It occurred to me that as adults, we are given the rule to hang pictures at eye level.  Well guess what, if you’re 5, eye level is about 2’ off the floor.  If that little rule of thumb works for grown ups, it should work for mini-me's too.  The best thing was that she chose some prints that I have had since high school and college (we don’t get rid of anything lightly).  When she gets older, I’ll tell her why I was fascinated with ballerinas and unicorns.  I wonder if we’ll find that we are enthralled by the same concepts.  She picked some other stuff too.  It’s actually pretty cool.  Someone else may have brought this to the world’s attention, so no credit needed.  Just go check out your child’s/children’s room with a kid’s eye view.  What do you think they see?

Keep a stock of a various types of picture hangers around.  A nail can work in most tough spots, but when it comes to pictures and prints that are hung at a kid’s eye view, you want to make sure that they stay on the wall.
